Jennifer Beals at USA Network event on Prejudice and Power at the Chicago History Museum yesterday 28march2011

The USA Network filmed a special event at the Chicago History Museum, benefiting The Moth, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the art of storytelling.

Actor Peter Gallagher hosted "A More Perfect Union: Stories of Prejudice and Power" and gave a brief intro before each performer. "I was going to be Kristen Chenoweth tonight. ( She was scheduled to attend. ) I almost got in the dress!" This was all a part of Characters Unite, which is a public-service campaign used to fight discrimination through storytelling. Cellist Tomeka Reid worked as timekeeper, limiting the testimonials to 10 minutes before she would begin playing and no written notes were permitted to aid the speakers.

With a variety of backgrounds each storyteller brought something to the table. Comedian Judy Gold talked about Judaism, lesbianism and mother-isms. Writer Walter Mosley covered racism. Sex and the City's Cindy Chupack described her adventure with a gay husband. Joey Kemmerling, founder of the Equality Project, remembered his troubled past of being bullied in school that led him to near suicide and opening The Equality Project. Urban Prep Academies Founder Tim King closed the show with his story of changing a young man's life.

Through laughter or tears, the strong cast hoped to combat discrimination by sharing personal insights from their lives. Gallagher ended the evening by saying, "Everyone should go tell a story or two, and let's all make the world a better place!"

Tod's Party: Derek Lam & Jennifer Beals Fly In to Celebrate

Last night, world-renowned Italian luxury goods company, Tod’s formally celebrated the redesign of its Oak Street boutique. This location which first opened in 2000 was redesigned according to the new worldwide Tod’s design concept to accommodate the Tod’s growing line of products.

Among those in attendance at last night's cocktail party that benefitted the Auxiliary Board of the Art Institute of Chicago were Derek Lam, Jennifer Beals, Toni Canada, Nancy Crown, Susan Crown, Julie Latsko, Melissa McNally, Abigail Rutherford, Rochelle Trotter, Meredith and Patrick Wood-Prince.

Tod’s which originally opened in 2000, measures twelve hundred square feet with the addition of space and is constructed according to the new Tod’s design concept. Tod's new concept expresses the tradition of luxury and craftsmanship. The renovated boutique has custom carpeting and couches in neutral tones, freestanding light fixtures and signature vacchetta leather accents. The store fixtures are finished in lacquer, oak and chrome.

The renovated Oak Street boutique is one of the exclusive stores to carry the full ready-to-wear collection designed by Tod’s creative director, Derek Lam in addition to the usual product categories-men’s and women’s shoes, handbags, small leather goods.

"The Chicago Code" actress Jennifer Beals attended the re-opening of Tod's boutique on Oak Street on Thursday and had dinner at Table Fifty-Two afterward.

"Shaft" star Richard Roundtree dined at Osteria Via Stato in River North on Thursday. White Sox broadcaster Steve Stone opted for Hub 51 that night.

There was not an empty seat in the house at the re-opening of the Tod's Accessories store on Oak Street in Chicago. The drinks and delectable finger foods were in abundance for all shopping participants that braved the unseasonably cold winds and drizzling rain.
With television and movie star Jennifer Beals as a co-host to the event, everyone was in attendance to check out some of the Spring and Summer goods Tod's had to offer. A portion of all sales that night went to benefit the Auxiliary Board of Art Institute of Chicago.
