Over the weekend Jennifer Beals attended the Susan G. Komen Honoring The Promise Benefit in Washington DC (28 oct 2011). We dressed her in a fantastic orange gown by Australian designer Lisa Ho, gold pumps by Steve Madden, a Deepa Gurnani clutch and Citrine By the Stones gold cuffs (which we are obsessed with by the way!)

A weekend gala raked in more than $2 million to help fund breast cancer research but failed to net very much attention from noticeably absent lawmakers.

The brochure for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Honoring the Promise event lists approaching four dozen Congressional co-chairmen and benefit committee members. But as we surveyed the sea of tuxedo-clad gents and ball-gowned ladies, there was a nary a pol to be found. Granted, the Senate was out and House had wrapped its business a day earlier, but wasn’t anyone from Capitol Hill able to make a guest appearance?

Komen wranglers suggested that some Congressional wives were definitely on hand. (We didn’t notice any semifamous spouses.)

Luckily, we were able to pump visiting celeb-vocates for vital information.

For instance, did you know that actress Jennifer Beals doesn’t much care for Halloween? Her biggest beef: Commercial costumes are flammable, and it’s almost always cold. When a fellow hack pointed out that many have copied her iconic “Flashdance” garb (sales of ripped sweatshirts are still soaring), Beals responded that at least it is warm and comfortable.

Meanwhile, “Scrubs” vet Donald Faison attempted to downplay any political aspirations, proclaiming, “I don’t think I will ever run for office ever. Ever.” But we must have awoken his inner candidate, because in the next breath, Faison added, “Not yet.”

Presenter Jennifer Beals looked gorgeous in her orange dress. She believes the portrayal of smoking has gone down in movies and she doesn’t tolerate anyone to smoke around her. She believes a lot of the environment is to blame for breast cancer. Beals feels that breast cancer has gotten too commercial with all these companies having pink on their products and people are not taking it as seriously as they should.

Honoring a sister’s promise

Glitz and glam walked the Hall of States at the Kennedy Center for the 2nd Annual Honoring the Promise Gala. The gala is the celebration of Ambassador Nancy Brinker’s promise she made more than 30 years ago to her dying sister Suzy. That is when the Susan G. Komen Foundation was born. Since then billions have been raised for breast cancer research and countless lives have been saved.

This year stars like Donald Faison, Jennifer Beals and Kerry Washington were presenters along with media personalities like Wolf Blitzer and breast cancer survivor NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell. Natasha Bedingfield blew the crowd away with acoustic renditions of Pocket Full of Sunshine and Unwritten.

One of my favorite parts of the night happened before the show during the opening reception. One of my heroes in this biz, Hoda Kotb of the Today Show was honored for inspiring so many women by sharing her own battle with the public. Another great moment.. when Susan Ford Bales with tears streaming down her face accepted an award on behalf of her mother, the late First Lady Betty Ford. (Photos by Tony Powell)

Woman in red?



Ieri sera si è tenuto Honoring The Promise Gala, evento che vi avevo anticipato in Jennifer per la vita. Oltre alla sua importanza, il gala è organizzato dalla Susan G. Komen.org, e dove Jennifer ha presentato il Premio Distinzione Advocacy a Ellen Sigal, fondatore di Friends of Cancer Research, le immagini che trovate alla fine del post, soprattutto quella, personalmente "so amazing" (a capo testo), parlano da sole. Devo dire che è una di quelle poche, pochissime volte, dove il vestito di Jennifer è all’altezza della bellezza di chi lo indossa. Forse il viaggetto fatto in Italia un mese fa ha dato i suoi frutti. Cipz!
